rRootage is the 3rd of Kenta Cho’s games I’m showcasing here, I’ve already shown Noiz2sa and Tumiki Fighters. rRootage has a couple of interesting aspects: you fight a series of increasingly difficult and intelligent bosses, and you have 4 modes in which to play the game. Each mode is an experiment in gameplay, […]

Dark Hell Company is a Dojin Soft developer from Japan. They’ve got 3 games as far as I can tell, and I’ve tried them all: Urban Uprising (image 1), WarMachine Overload (image 2), and Psyche Metal The Bleeding (image 3). These games are definite old-school shmups. But what I like best is […]

Hitoga Happa is another dojin soft game. It’s a very well done vertical shmup, with incredible graphics. This one threw me into bullet-curtain hell almost right away… thankfully your player slows down when you hold the shot (’Z‘) button down allowing for more finite movement control. ‘X‘ seems to put the game […]

Not so slow today after all… courtesy of Independent Gaming comes Steam Brigade. It’s a real-time, side-scrolling strategy game with steam-powered dirigibles. A beta demo is available for download now, and the game proves to be quite promising. You control a steam-powered balloon with a magnet. You must manage your resources […]

…might be the name of this shmup by Warashi. This is one for the arcades in Japan, but the reason I mention it is that if you scroll down the page you’ll notice “Naomi” near the bottom. It’s a slow day I know, but the Naomi board (still) used in arcades is very […]

Nabaztag, the first smart rabbit. What an interesting idea, a rabbit that connects to your wi-fi network. The company that designed this is Violet, and they seem to have other network-aware devices. From what I gather, you register your Nabaztag with their website and you now have the ability to send and […]

Do yourself a favour and head here. The site’s in Japanese, but if you wait a bit for the page to load, then click in the window, you’ll be treated to a beautiful light and sound show. Use the mouse to interact with the particle effects, and click to try something different.

Work on Shade continues… collision detection between bullets and enemies is in place, as are explosions. The effects are turning out better than I’ve expected: first my particle engine worked out well on its first pass, and now the explosion animation looks good first time around as well.
Performance is a bit […]

There’s a demo here of some realistic water effects from the game The Lord of the Rings, The Battle for Middle-Earth II for the XBox 360. Pretty impressive stuff.

I was lucky enough to get a copy of Ixion from John Parker at Gyrox, the developers of the game. I had written to Gyrox inquiring as to the availability of the game and received a very nice reply from John. Nice to see a personal touch in business.
Ixion is a side-scrolling […]
